Mabamba Bay wetland/Sanctuary
Mabamba wetland is a not miss for any birder in Uganda! Located on the shores of Lake Victoria, Mabamba bay wetland is a home to the rare shoebill stork, a focus bird for most birders I =n Uganda. A canoe ride through the swamp gives you chance to spot the iconic shoebill as it feasts on the catfish captured from the swamp. In addition to shoebill stork, Mabamab Bay wetland is home to other bird species such as Black Egrets, Orange Weaver, African King Fisher, African Jacana, Goliath Heron, Black Crake, Less Jacana and Papyrus Genolek among others. Mabamba is located in Entebbe a few meters from Entebbe International Airport hence one of the easily accessible birding areas in Uganda. Queen Elizabeth National park
Sheltering over 600 bird species, Queen Elizabeth National park offers the best and diverse birding experience in Uganda. The park comprise of diverse vegetation including forests, swamps and savannahs which provide food and habitation for a variety of bird species. Some of the notable birds seen in Queen Elizabeth National park include White Egrets, Yellow billed Stork, African Fish Eagle, African King fisher, African Jacana, Hammerkop, Pal nut Vulture, African Finfoot, African Skimmer, African Hobby, White winged turn, Great white pelican and spotted Red shank among others. Whereas Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is known for mountain gorilla trekking, the park is also a haven for birders. The Impenetrable Forest is home to over 350 bird species 14 of which are not found anywhere else in the whole of Uganda. Some of the notable birds to see in Bwindi Forest National park include Crowned Hornbill, Black bee eater, Mountain masked Apalis, Giant Kingfisher, Ruwenzori Apalis and Black faced Warbler. March and September is the best time for bird watching in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

Kibale Forest National park
Though well known as the “primate capital of Africa” due to the high number of primates, Kibale Forest National park is also an important Birding Area in Uganda. The rain forest shelters over 370 bird species 4 of which are not found anywhere else in Uganda . The endemic birds in Kibale Forest Park include Cassin’s spinetail, blue-headed bee-eater, Nahan’s francolin and Masked Apalis. Other birds to see in Kibale Forest include African pied Wagtail, Slender Billed Weaver, Afep pigeon, Red Chested Owlet, Blue Headed bee eater, African pitta, and little greenbul and crowned Eagle among others.
Kidepo Valley national Park
Sheltering over 470 bird species, Kidepo Valley National Park is second to Queen Elizabeth national park in sheltering the highest number of birds in Uganda. 60 bird species have not been recorded anywhere else in Uganda. The notable birds to see in Kidpeo Valley National park include Kori Bustard, Little bee eater, Fox Kestrel, Pgym Flacon, Golden Pipit, Chest Nut Weaver and Ostrich among others. The best time for bird watching in Kidepo Valley National park is March to April. However, birding can be done all year round
