Mubare is the oldest gorilla group in Bwindi forest which was habituated in Bwindi Forest in 1991 but opened to travelers in 1993.  In addition to Mubare group, Buhoma shelters other gorilla families which include Rushegura family, Katwe Family and Habinyanja Family. Buhoma sector is easily accessed from Kabale district.  Katuna border is the best entry point for those connecting from Kigali to Uganda for gorilla trekking experience. Ruhija Sector

Ruhija is yet another interesting gorilla region in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National park located in the eastern part of the park. There are four habituated gorilla families in Ruhija sector of Bwindi and these are Bitukura family, Kyaguliro family, Mukiza family and Oruzogo gorilla family. Altogether, Ruhija has 32 gorilla families available each day

Rushaga Sector

Located in the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National park, Rushaga .is a popular gorilla region sheltering the highest number of gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National park. These families include Nshongi family, Mishaya Family, Kahungye Family, Busingye Family, Bweza family, Bikyingi Family, Rwigi Family, Mucunguzi Family. The many gorilla families guarantee availability of many permits which give more travelers a chance to trek the endangered gorillas. Rushaga is easily accessed through Cyanika Border hence the suitable region for Uganda gorilla safaris starting an ending in Kigali Rwanda. Rushaga sector is also a center of gorilla habituation experience and two gorilla groups (Bushaho and Bikyingi) are currently undergoing habituation.

Nkuringo Gorilla Sector
